In honor of Memorial Day weekend next week, I am doing a flashback to one of my most favorite sets….
Ahoy Matey! Permission to come aboard for the super, cute tutorial on how to make this F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S (if I do say so myself) “Nautical Theme” custom set! If you were in the Augusta, GA area, maybe you heard me shouting “Arrrgggghhhh” quite a bit – oh wait, maybe that is why I didn’t receive my usual assistance at WalMart. Hmmmm… Anyway, a client of mine wanted to focus her child’s first birthday/cake smash session on a nautical theme and I have to tell you that I was delighted as punch to become crafty for this one. One trip to WalMart later, I left with 8 different types of fabrics in 2 yard measurements each. I combined solids, prints, polka-dots, stripes, wide silver glittery tulle (AY! My favorite!).
When I got back to my studio, I cut each fabric into 2-3 inch wide strips and then started tying them in a knot at the top of my background stand. I placed the silver tulle (did I mention that was my FAVE) in front to for an extra punch. Can you believe this session actually took place right in the middle of my studio! I then took poster board and cut out a super cute anchor, because seriously… nautical theme and NO ANCHOR – what is this amateur hour?? And, since my motto is “Safety First”, I had to include two lifesavers, just in case things got a little topsy turvy on the high studio seas! I added scrunched up red tissue paper to those two doughnut lifesavers to make them more festive. So, what do you think? Should I start having everyone call me “Captain Mary Beth”?
