Are you traveling somewhere exciting this summer? Whether it’s a weekend city scene, a family vacation, or somewhere on the other side of the world make use of your iPhone camera and leave the bulky equipment at home. While the resolution and quality may not be as good as a DSLR, today’s iPhones have a lot to offer and are portable and convenient. Shoot within seconds and don’t miss a moment!
Being prepared is the most critical aspect of using your iPhone for photography as you travel this summer. Here are some tips to help you get ready!
Research Your Destination
Where are the local sights? Are you near natural beauty that you can capture? By researching your destination, you won’t miss out on something that might be right around the corner! If you are traveling internationally, be sure to research local rules and avoid photographing anything that is off limits or prohibited.
Use the Instagram Community
Instagram is free and full of information from others who have already traveled to your destination. Search the hashtags of the city name and famous sights. Where have others visited, eaten, or photographed? Every location will have tourist locations, but there are things that only the locals know. Take advantage of this free tool and discover something new you didn’t know about!
Storage, Storage, Storage
Make sure to prep your iPhone before you leave so that you have enough space to store all of those new images you are going to be capturing. You wouldn’t want to miss out on a great candid because there isn’t enough space on your iPhone to capture the moment.
Likewise, battery life is also important, especially if you plan to be out all day. Make sure to have an external battery so you can give yourself more hours of shooting. If you don’t need Cellular service, consider switching to Airplane Mode in Settings to optimize the life of your iPhone battery.
Tell a Story
You may only have a moment to capture your shot, don’t be afraid to use burst mode by holding down the shutter button and taking a series of shots in quick succession. You can always review them after and delete the ones you don’t want to keep to free up space.
Consider adding a subject into your scenes to make the shot more interesting and add depth, this can be a person or object.
Look for small details, not just the wide landscapes. Get up close and capture the fine details of your environment.
Think of a theme and shoot images that are similar to showcase what you experienced.
In closing, don’t hesitate to fill that camera roll! Take as many photos as you can – not all will be amazing and ones that you will want to share but they will all take you back to that place and time when you want them to…they will all serve as a part of your memories of the travel, destination, family, friends, and fun that you experienced.
When it doubt of taking the shot, take it! You won’t regret having too many photos that you have to review, but you will regret not having that memory!
So prep your phone, do your research and fill that camera roll of life’s beautiful moments.
All My Best,
Mary Beth
