Fall is such a fun time for family portraits! Whether you are joining me on October 12thfor the cotton field sessions, taking advantage of the lake scene I now offer as an outdoor option at my studio or staying in the studio, the right outfit choices can have an impact on the overall feel and cohesiveness of your family portraits. Once you book your session with Mary Beth’s Photography, you will receive a consultation where we work out all of the details of the session and plan everything from the day and location of the shoot to the outfits you will wear and what products you may be interested in.
To ensure fun fall photos let’s talk about outfit options. I suggest my clients begin with a color palette and consider where the images will be displayed. I also recommend starting with one family members outfit and build from there. An example would be, you can start with a plaid shirt and pull colors from it for other family members to wear. Fall provides a background of so much to choose from – reds, oranges, yellows, plums, maroons, even black – while I also still welcoming the cooler tones of blues, grays, and whites. Consider which colors will surround the pictures based on where you plan to display them. If you plan to hang pictures on the walls of your home or display in frames in individual rooms, consider what colors are already there. Outfits that compliment your décor will make it easier when finding a “home” for your new portraits.
Even for multiple family portraits, I recommend starting with 3 or 4 color options so that each family looks great individually and when taking the larger combined group photo everyone seems connected. I’ve put together a sample board to inspire your outfit decisions and look forward to helping you with these decisions to capture the perfect look for your needs.
I still have spots open for Cotton Field Sessions on Saturday, October 12th and would love to see you there! Book now to reserve your spot before they sell out!
