Summer has arrived and in our household, we cannot be happier!! For many this may mean scheduling summer family portraits outside or at the beach! The question that gets asked with planning every session is….. “What should we wear?”. Do we all match in the same clothes- khaki’s and whites or how do we branch away from that? I am here to help! We have put together two simple Summer Clothing Guides and you can buy these items NOW at the Gap or Old Navy for your Summer portraits!

Here are some tips for choosing clothing for portraits:

1-My general rule of thumb is start with the Mom’s wardrobe and build from there. If the Mom feels good with what she is wearing… everything else falls into place.
2- If you have a piece of clothing that has a pattern, this will be your jumping point. Pull solid colors from that piece of clothing for your other members of the family.
3- No, you do not want someone in large plaid and someone else in another large print or stripes- they clash! You want the focus to be the people, not the clothing. Think of the clothing as an accent to the portrait.

This family nailed their portraits with clothing choices! Notice how the the little girls are wearing print matching dresses ( so adorable) and the mom pulled solid colors from the dresses for her , her son and husband. Her son had on plaid shorts that had complimenting colors to the dresses and both father and dad had the same color shirts! It worked beautifully! ❤️
