When I started out as a photographer, I had no idea where this career (err… started out as a hobby) would take me! I just knew a few basic things – I was really creative with my camera; I had a special way with children (thank you all those years of teaching) and I found that taking portraits was fulfilling my life in a way that I hadn’t ever experienced in any other job or hobby.

Thanks to an incredibly supportive family, my hobby has turned into a full time job that has lead me to my own studio, having met lots of amazing families and so many cherished memories. The craziest part is that I truly never know when my work is going to be seen and who it will make such an impression on that they are inspired to pick up the phone and call me (or email or text or Facebook message… you get the picture here)!

Enter John Welsh, from Aiken Woman Magazine. This amazing magazine arrives to the community 4 times a year and includes FABULOUS articles about local community businesses, owners, events, tips and suggestions for leading a healthier life and creating a better YOU. The magazine is a free publication, supported solely by the advertisers in the magazine. It is such a special magazine. One day earlier this year, I received a call from John Welsh. He had heard about my photography from a mutual contact and John wanted to know if I would be interested in partnering with the magazine by taking portraits for the cover and interior articles. WHAT?!? Of course!!!

It is a streamlined process by now; I receive the magazine team’s photography needs, contact information and what they are looking for from the session; I coordinate with the next month’s featured community members and businesses to decide a mutually acceptable time and place for our portraits, edit them and send them along. I am so honored to be a part of the Aiken Woman Magazine. Take a look at some of my work!
