Today I’m introducing you a to a bee-utiful newly turned one year old. You. Are. Welcome. And to celebrate, she did a cake smash session! These are some of my most favorite sessions and although most parents are surprised that their little ones are timid at first with their cake, the portraits from these sessions are always adorable as well as entertaining. They make up some of my all time favorite portraits and there’s something about these; might be the theme, might be the age, might be the cake, that you don’t capture in any other sessions.
When you book your cake smash session with us, you get the works. These sessions include a custom back drop and decor items to match a theme of your choosing. We include a custom cake to match your theme as well. This creates a cohesive set that will perfectly compliment your little one. The themes are endless! Sometimes parents go with a simple set, they might focus on a certain color palette. Other parents like to choose a cake smash theme that matches the 1st birthday party. And others like to incorporate the career, hobbies or passion of mom and/or dad. I’ve never created a set I didn’t love!! This is one of the fun parts for me; creating a set that exceeds your expectations. This particular family chose a bee theme and as you will see, there’s everything from a beehive custom cake, honeycomb pattern in the background and other details that add to the overall theme!
This little honey bee was a bit reluctant at first, but once she got a taste of that cake, she went in for more. There’s even a shot with her shoving cake in her mouth with one hand and putting her other hand up in a stop motion. Like she was trying to say, “Leave me alone, I’m good here with my cake!” Some parents are surprised that their kids don’t dive in head first to their cake, but most children don’t. And because of this, I encourage clients to bring a small beloved snack (cheerios, puffs, goldfish) to place behind the cake so even if the child doesn’t want any of the cake, it looks like they’re eating the cake and we can get that perfect shot.
Although the cake smash is the highlight of the session, there is also more that is included. We encourage our clients to take this time to grab some family portraits. These can be separate from the cake smash set up, even outside if you prefer, with the little one in a different outfit. Some other extra’s when booking the cake smash session is you are encouraged to videotape the cake smash to have for your own personal use. We know that it’s a memory you want to hold onto! And what I think of as the biggest take away from the cake smash session, is that you get to take home your custom cake that is created by Dolce Delights by Dana! So, enjoy that because the cakes a!
