Thanksgiving is usually a day full of traditions. Watching the Macy’s Thanksiging Day Parade in your pajamas (with mimosas of course), a family football game and of course, all your favorite yummy traditional dishes.
Traditions make everyone feel safe, comfortable and happy. Especially traditions that bring together family and friends. And as much as I love my family traditions, sometimes a little change can bring a fresh perspective and a new beginning.
With this being the first holiday season without Brett being here, we are holding on to our traditions that bring us the best memories of him being with us. However, in the food department, we’re bringing in some fresh recipes to share with our family and friends.

Most people don’t think of breakfast on Thanksgiving. The morning is usually all hustle and bustle with making sure the turkey has enough time to cook, getting all the dishes polished and breakfast is an after thought. Until this year!
This year breakfast is having a moment with this pumpkin casserole. And the very best thing about it, in my humble opinion, is it is a make-ahead overnight dish. It’s simple, delicious, makes the house smell like Thanksgiving and pairs perfect with mimosas, pajamas and parade watching.
This pumpkin caseerole is from The Worktop and is a combination of pumpkin pie and french toast. And I’m just wondering why it took me so long to even realize that this would be the perfect pairing. Enjoy!

Moving on to appetizers. While the turkey and mashed potatoes, and rolls if you have young children, take the VIP slots, my favorite part of the day is when the appetizers are out. I love the smells, the combination of flavors and that I can sample it all!

Everyone knows bruschetta. It’s deliciously bold, fresh and a classic. But, Whitney Bond puts a Thanksgiving twist on your traditional bruschetta.
We keep the favorite toasted bread anchor, but on top is a layer of ricotta cheese mixture. Topping that is a mixture of roasted butternut squash and apples with fresh sage. And the finale is a balsamic glaze drizzle.
This one is best served warm so it’s not make-ahead friendly, but my advice is to make the butterbut squash and apple mixture ahead of time and warm it up right before serving. And then of course, enjoy!

I hope these reipes give you some inspiration to try something new this Thanksgiving. The turkey isn’t going anywhere, but maybe a fresh new dish shared with friends and family will make the day even sweeter.
