Spring in the South has a way of feeling like a fresh breath, especially here in Augusta, Georgia. The air softens, the light gets a little dreamier, and everything starts to bloom into something beautiful. As a photographer, this season is one of my absolute favorites for portraits. The natural scenery does so much of the work for us, which means what you wear can truly elevate your images from lovely to breathtaking.

If you’re planning spring portraits in Augusta choosing the right outfits is about blending comfort, color, and texture with the soft, organic feel of the season. I have prepared a Spring Portrait What To Wear Guide to help you out.  Let’s talk about how to style your session so your images feel timeless, elevated, and effortlessly beautiful. I have curated two looks as well with links on where to buy these outfits to help make it easy for you to click and buy!  ❤️

Embrace Soft, Nature-Inspired Colors

Spring is all about color—but not bold, overpowering shades. Think soft, romantic, and earthy tones that complement the blooming landscape rather than compete with it.

Some beautiful options include:

  • Soft blush, dusty rose, and peach tones
  • Sage green, olive, and muted moss
  • Cream, ivory, and warm neutrals
  • Powder blue and soft lavender

These colors photograph beautifully against the fresh greens and floral backdrops that start appearing all around Augusta this time of year. Here is a beautifully curated spring portrait what to wear guide below for your family’s spring portraits.

Let the Textures Shine

Spring is the perfect season to add visual interest through texture without layering too heavily. Lightweight fabrics create movement and softness in your images.

Look for:

  • Flowing dresses that catch the breeze
  • Linen and cotton fabrics
  • Subtle lace or eyelet details
  • Soft knits for cooler early spring mornings

These textures add depth and dimension, especially when paired with natural light and outdoor settings.

Coordinate Without Matching

For Spring portraits, the goal is coordination—not matching outfits. Choose a cohesive color palette and build each family member’s outfit around it.

For example:

  • Mom in a soft floral or solid dress
  • Dad in a neutral shirt with subtle texture
  • Children in complementary tones with light patterns

The result is a polished, cohesive look that still feels natural and relaxed.

Keep the Setting in Mind

Here in Augusta, GA spring brings a mix of blooming trees, soft greenery, and golden light that filters through the landscape in the most magical way.

Think about:

  • Garden or garden-inspired settings with florals and soft colors
  • Historic areas with brick or neutral tones
  • Open fields with tall grass and soft sunlight

Your wardrobe should enhance the setting, not distract from it. Soft, flowy outfits look especially stunning when paired with natural, organic environments.

Avoid Distracting Elements

Sometimes what you don’t wear is just as important.

Try to avoid:

  • Large logos or graphic prints
  • Neon or overly saturated colors
  • Busy patterns that pull focus away from faces
  • Heavy fabrics that feel out of season

The goal is to keep the focus on connection, emotion, and those fleeting, beautiful moments.

Think Timeless Over Trendy

When choosing outfits, lean into timeless pieces that you’ll still love looking back on years from now. Spring portraits are often heirloom images, especially for families and children, so the styling should reflect that lasting quality.

Flowy dresses, classic button-downs, and soft, neutral layers tend to stand the test of time and photograph beautifully year after year.

Spring in Augusta, Ga truly transforms into something magical. The blooming trees, soft light, and fresh air create the perfect canvas for your portraits—and your wardrobe plays a big role in completing that vision.

If you’re planning a session this spring, I would love to help you style your outfits and create images that feel just as beautiful and meaningful as the season itself. 🌸
