School’s out for summer! School’s out forever! Ok, I got carried away, not forever, but sometimes a summer can feel like forever when your kids are home and constantly wanting to be entertained. And while I am a firm believer that there is no need to entertain your kids every minute of the day, it’s fun to take little adventures during the summer months! So we have put together some must do’s for you and your family this summer. And bonus, they’re local so you’ll get limited whining about how long the car ride is. 😉
Cool off and have a blast at Splash in the Boro! This fun filled family waterpark is a staple for summer and mark my words, you will be crowned best mom in town! This is a full day of fun with endless attractions for your kids to enjoy. From a wave pool to the flow rider to the lazy river, this waterpark has it all. There are also smaller, tot slides, for the younger kids. And for the younger, weaker swimmers, Coast Guard approved flotation devices are permitted. And if you forgot yours, they have life vests on a first come, first serve basis for guests. If you’re more of a pack your own lunch kind of family, food is not permitted inside the water park but you are able to leave the complex (just make sure you get your hand stamped first!) and re-enter. So head to the parking lot for a car picnic, get fueled up, apply another coat of sunscreen and head back in for more fun! And if you would like to see all the attractions they have to offer, head here to get all the details.
If you’re looking for an all day adventure but are looking to stay a little more dry, Frankie’s Fun Park is the pick for you! They have. it. all. From laser tag and a state of the art arcade to bumper boats, mini golf and go-kart racing. And that’s not all. Practice your swing at the batting cages, feel your adrenaline pump on the drop zone or test out some virtual reality with hologate. They have you covered with food at Frankie’s Cafe with a kid and adult friendly menu (I’ll take a Sam Adams please). This place has something for everyone and is sure to please everyone in the family.
A bucket list adventure of a summer vacation is a visit to the zoo. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is the perfect opportunity to get this one crossed off your list. Start your visit off with a visit to the Sea Lion Landing, one of the first attractions you’ll see upon entering. You’ll be able to look down through a panoramic window at Riverbanks’ own sea lions and harbor seal. Then head to the Kangaroo Walkabout where you’re transported to the land down under and kangaroos just hop around just steps away with no barrier. Then head to experience the gorillas or white rhinoceros’ (Kande and Winnie). And don’t miss the chance to feed the giraffe, watch the koalas napping (they sleep 18-20 hours a day, anyone jealous?) and before you leave visit the lions tigers and bears (and a flying monkey or two). If there’s time, step into the beautiful gardens before you (and your kids) are sure to head home and collapse on the couch.
Load up the car after a long day and head over to The Big Mo for an experience every summer needs, a drive in movie. There is no better way to spend a summer night than watching a movie, under the stars. And enjoying some popcorn and candy just makes it that much sweeter. Affordable family fun by having double features (for the price of one) and a full concession stand stocked with everyone’s favorites. There’s also a playground area for the kids to get all those wiggles out before the movie starts. So grab your cash (it’s the only form of payment they take) and head to the the drive-in! It’s a memory that might just be your favorite of the summer.
Summer vacation is a time to unlock some core memories, spend quality time with family and friends and slow down the pace of life. It’s a time for slow mornings, bubbles on the patio and fire pits complete with s’mores. And it’s also time for some memorable adventures. We hope this list helps you make up a fun filled bucket list for summer! Have fun this summer! ☀️
