I know we’ve shared about maternity and newborn sessions in this post, a little about the safety precautions I take for newborn sessions in this post, and how we pamper the heck out of our moms-to-be in this post, but today I want to spotlight both sessions and why your experience with Mary Beth’s Photography will be like no other, plus the best time to book these sessions!

First, you know what they say, timing is everything! For maternity portrait sessions, it’s so important to book them in advance. The beginning of your second trimester is the best time to book a maternity session. We usually set up a date anytime between 26-36 weeks. This is because it all depends on when you start showing. And as any mom of multiples knows, you start showing earlier and earlier with every child. So a first time mom might not have their session until 32 weeks, while a third time mom will book at 28 weeks. This is why, at Mary Beth’s Photography, I really urge clients to book their session at the beginning of their second trimester because we’ll be in contact, have a plan and be ready when your cute belly is showing.

We also have a beautiful collection of maternity rental gowns that we order for you! Booking at the start of your second trimester allows us a better selection of these gowns! It also allows for us to plan your session, any location you’ve dreamt about and any specifics you are wishing for. At Mary Beth’s Photography we want you to feel comfortable at your session and we happily go to great lengths to make that happen!

For our maternity sessions, you are pampered with professional make up from our amazing makeup artist, Karrie Lykins. Also, the gown rental of your choice, a 30 minute session (inside our natural light studio or outside at a location of your choice), and an online gallery that you will choose 10 keepsake digital images. It’s a great way to feel beautiful, celebrate this momentous time in your life and cherish the memories!

And then comes the newborn session! Newborn sessions are my pride and joy. ❤️ They are magical and wonderful! At Mary Beth’s Photography we want your newborn session to be everything you are dreaming of and that, once again, is very dependent on timing. Newborn sessions should also be booked at the beginning of your second trimester. This really allows us the time to talk about how you envision your newborn session. At our pre-consultation we talk and get to know each other and I will also walk you through all the options we have!

The best time to have your newborn session is within the first two weeks of your little ones arrival into the world. We will tentatively schedule your session for one week after your due date. This, in my experience, works great because it gives your little one a little leeway on when they are ready to come into the world. Having your session on my calendar allows us to keep in touch and whether your bundle of joy is eager to make their appearance or cozy and a little stubborn, we are ready when they are!

For timing, I schedule newborn sessions during the week, at either 10:00am or 1:00pm. These sessions last 2-3 hours (accounting for diaper changes, feedings, fussy moods or stubborn siblings), include several different customized set designs, plus we don’t want to forget about family and sibling portraits! Speaking of siblings, we are always prepared for those older brothers and sisters with snacks and toys (that are vigorously cleaned and sanitized between each session). We want everyone to be happy at Mary Beth’s Photography!

I know all of this might sound a little overwhelming to book and schedule at the beginning of your second trimester, but believe me, better to be prepared than not.  I’ve unfortunately had to turn away clients because they have waited later for maternity and newborn sessions and I hate that!  I only take a limited amount of newborns a month. I want my clients to feel taken care of, to know that we’ll get those precious portraits they’ve dreamt of and to enjoy their experience with Mary Beth’s Photography! So, when you’re ready (and by that I mean, around 14 weeks pregnant) reach out and book your session. You will want to remember these moments and times in your life. They go oh-so-quickly and you can’t get them back! ❤️
