As a newborn and family photographer, capturing life’s precious moments is my passion and the reason my feet hit the ground in the morning – well besides my family, of course! This time of year, I love how the kitchen becomes the heart of the home – no matter the size of your family or your oven. We allow ourselves a pass on the calories and the potential cavities as we indulge in all things baking and fill our homes with the most sugary smells. Whether you have a family baking tradition or do a cookie swap with friends baking and cooking together is a time and treasured tradition. It can be sentimental to bake an old family recipe, exciting to try something new and funny (or frustrating, but I hope you find the humor!) when we realize we forgot an ingredient.
As I had children, incorporating them into the baking tradition was essential to me, and being a newborn and family photographer, I couldn’t wait to capture these memories. Recently we traveled to see my sister for Thanksgiving, and I loved capturing these pictures of my daughter Brenna and her cousin Trapper making these delicious gluten-free sugar cookies. One day I dream I will see these images surface again as they grow up and have families of their own. I hope they will stop and savor the moments that I have over the years.
What are your holiday baking traditions? I would love to hear them!
