I love family traditions!  I love knowing that the same things I do, someone in my past did the exact same thing – the same steps, the same thoughts, the same smells.  I just love it – it makes me feel connections to my past in no other way.  This is how I feel on Christmas Eve every year when we make my Nana’s spaghetti sauce.  It is a whole day process to make her sauce and we have never once tried anything new with it… I mean, why change perfection, right.

The way the sauce smells as you go about your day on Christmas Eve is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  You run out to grab something at the store and come home to the most delicious smells.  I love making the sauce and thinking of all the Christmas Eves I spent with my Nana and know that I am making wonderful memories for my children.  I know my Nana is smiling down on us and feel so close to her when I make her sauce.  Do you have any family traditions that bring back warm memories for you?

      Directions:
In a large pot, cover the bottom with olive oil. Lightly brown 1/2 onions and garlic. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and start at a rolling boil and then lower to simmer.
Then make the meatballs- mix ground beef, 1 egg, 1/2 cup onion, salt and pepper and bread crumbs with hands. Make into balls and place on a plate.
Brown the meatballs lightly in fry pan with olive oil( 2 tablespoons)
Add the meatballs to the pot. Then cook up sausage in fry pan into small bits and brown them and add to the sauce pot.
Cook for 1-2 hours on simmer, stirring occasionally.
