Watch a custom set design in action with my time-lapse video: Baby Shark Custom Set Design
One of my most favorite things about being a newborn/family portrait photographer is creating beautiful backgrounds and unique sets to achieve my client’s vision. I enjoy speaking with clients and listening to what they are trying to accomplish for their families’ memories. I start researching the idea to create a custom experience for each client and often spend time painting backdrops or creating props to be used in the session.
Recently, a mom wanted to capture the love her son has for the hip tune, “Baby Shark”. Playing on the theme of the song I used watercolors to create the sharks you see in this blog post. I love the creative process of pulling each piece together to create the perfect look and feel of the set.
Our Cake Smash session can be done as a stand-alone shoot or as a part of our First Year Moments Collection – either way the cake is always provided and we make sure to incorporate the theme with it as well. If you are coming in for a Cake Smash session, we include other setups and portraits too. Often clients want a photo of their one-year-old with siblings or all together as a family, so we make sure the Cake Smash set is the last thing we shoot during the session.
Occasionally clients bring items with them, and we make sure to incorporate each prop into the set at the appropriate time – whether that’s at the beginning of the session or during the Cake Smash. Each session is unique for each client. I work diligently to understand your vision for your session, research your idea to create a custom set experience and achieve your overall theme.
When your Cake Smash session is a part of our First Year Moments Collection, we create custom sets for each milestone we are capturing, newborn to their first birthday. It’s an exciting time for a family, and it’s my pleasure to capture these memories.
