There’s something about fall that makes you want to slow down.
The mornings get a little cooler, the leaves begin to change, pumpkin patches start popping up, and weekends suddenly feel like the perfect time to get outside and spend a little extra time together.
And while there are plenty of big events and exciting places to visit during the season, some of the best childhood memories are made during the simplest moments.
A Saturday morning at the pumpkin patch. Baking cookies together in the kitchen. Jumping into a pile of leaves. Taking a walk after dinner.
If you’re looking for fall activities for kids or fun ways to spend time together as a family, we’ve put together some of our favorite ideas, including several places to explore right here around the Augusta and North Augusta area.

Make a Fall Family Bucket List
Before the season gets too busy, sit down together and make a family fall bucket list.
Let everyone choose a few things they’d like to do. Younger kids might want to visit a pumpkin patch or jump in leaves, while older kids may want to go to a football game, explore a new trail, or visit a local festival.
Some ideas to add to your list:
- Visit a pumpkin patch
- Go on a hayride
- Make pumpkin bread (I’ve got some great recipes here on my food blog!)
- Have a fall movie night
- Go on a nature walk
- Visit a local fall festival
- Pick out pumpkins
- Make a fall craft
- Have a family picnic
- Jump in a pile of leaves
- Make homemade apple cider
- Take family pictures
- Visit a farm
- Bake cookies together
- Watch the sunset
The goal isn’t to check off every single thing. It’s simply to give your family a reason to slow down and enjoy the season together.
Visit Sara’s Farm Adventure
If you’re looking for a full day of fall activities near Augusta, put Sara’s Farm Adventure in Trenton, South Carolina, on your list.
Located about 30 minutes from Augusta, Sara’s Farm Adventure hosts Pumpkin Fest from September 17 through November 8, 2026. The fall experience includes PumpkinTown, a corn maze, wagon rides, farm animals, pedal cars, a jumping pillow, pig races, a tractor pull, fall photo opportunities, and more.
There’s enough to do that you can easily make an entire fall day out of it.
Let the kids run around, explore the farm, pick out a pumpkin, visit the animals, and enjoy seasonal treats along the way.
And don’t forget your camera! Between the pumpkins, farm setting, and little ones running around, there are plenty of opportunities for those candid fall memories.
Spend an Afternoon at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park
Fall is a wonderful time to get outside and explore nature.
Phinizy Swamp Nature Park in Augusta has walking trails, boardwalks, wetlands, and plenty of opportunities for kids to see wildlife. It’s a great choice for a fall family activity that gets everyone outside without requiring a full day of planning.
Turn the walk into an adventure for the kids.
See how many different leaves they can find. Look for birds and turtles. Bring a little notebook and let them draw something they see along the way.
Sometimes the simplest outdoor adventures become the ones kids remember.
Take a Walk Along the Greeneway
For something close to home, head out to the North Augusta Greeneway.
Pack some snacks, bring the bikes or scooters, or simply take a family walk and enjoy the cooler weather.
You can make it even more fun by creating a fall scavenger hunt:
Can you find…
- A red leaf
- A yellow leaf
- An acorn
- A pinecone
- A bird
- A butterfly
- A tree bigger than you
- Something shaped like a heart
The Greenway is an easy way to turn an ordinary afternoon into a little family adventure.
Explore Brick Pond Park
Another great local option is Brick Pond Park in North Augusta.
The trails around the restored wetlands make it a fun place to walk, explore, and look for wildlife. It’s especially nice for families who want a simple outdoor activity without traveling far.
Bring a picnic, let the kids explore, and enjoy a slower afternoon outside.
And if you’re already downtown, you can easily turn the outing into a full North Augusta day by grabbing a treat or exploring the riverfront afterward.
Have a Family Picnic
Fall weather practically begs for a picnic.
You don’t need a fancy basket or a complicated menu. Pack sandwiches, fruit, snacks, and something sweet, grab a blanket, and head outside.
Let the kids bring bubbles, a ball, or sidewalk chalk.
The point isn’t the food or even the location. It’s getting everyone away from their normal routine for a little while and simply enjoying being together.
Make Something Together
Not every fall activity needs to involve leaving the house.
Pick an afternoon to bake something together. Pumpkin muffins, apple crisp, cinnamon rolls, or sugar cookies are all fun options.
Let the kids help measure ingredients and decorate the finished treats.
Yes, your kitchen might get a little messy.
But that’s okay.
The flour-covered faces and messy counters are part of the memory.
You could also spend an afternoon making fall crafts. Collect leaves on a walk and turn them into artwork, paint pumpkins, make paper pumpkins, or create decorations for your home.
Save a few of their favorite creations. Years from now, those little crafts may mean more to you than you expect.
Visit a Local Fall Festival
Fall is also the perfect time to explore local events around the CSRA.
Keep an eye out for community festivals, farmers markets, seasonal events, and family-friendly activities in Augusta and North Augusta.
The Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee is a longtime North Augusta fall tradition, with the celebration centered around downtown and Georgia Avenue. It’s a fun option for families who want to enjoy local vendors, food, entertainment, crafts, and seasonal activities.
The Georgia-Carolina State Fair is another classic fall outing in Augusta and can be a fun family tradition for kids who love rides, games, fair food, and all the excitement of a night at the fair.
Plan a Cozy Fall Night at Home
Sometimes your favorite fall activity is the one that happens in your living room.
Pick a family movie, make popcorn, grab blankets, and turn the lights down low.
You could make hot chocolate, bake cookies beforehand, or even build a blanket fort.
Choose a movie everyone can enjoy and make it a tradition you repeat throughout the season.
These little nights at home are often the moments that become part of your family’s story.
Start a Fall Tradition
Speaking of traditions, fall is the perfect time to start one.
Maybe every year your family:
- Visits the same pumpkin patch
- Takes a family picture
- Makes pumpkin pancakes
- Watches the same movie
- Bakes the same dessert
- Goes on a fall walk
- Decorates the house together
- Takes a weekend trip to a favorite farm
It doesn’t have to be elaborate.
The magic is in doing it every year.
As your kids grow up and begin their own traditions with their kids, they remember these memories. They will carry on these traditions with their own kids to have those priceless memories, too.
Take the Pictures
As photographers, we obviously love photographs.
But we’re also big believers that you don’t need a professional photo session to document your family’s life.
Take the pictures: the slightly blurry ones, the one where your child’s face is covered in pumpkin pie, where your kids are running through the leaves.
And, most importantly, get in the picture, too.
Because parents are so often the ones behind the camera, we forget we deserve to be part of the memories we’re creating.
Of course, a fall family portrait session is another beautiful way to intentionally document this season of your family’s life. If you are interested in capturing those memories to cherish for years to come, click here to contact me.
Make This Fall About the Memories
You don’t need to plan something exciting every weekend.
No need to spend a lot of money.
You don’t even need to leave the house.
Sometimes making memories looks like a trip to Sara’s Farm Adventure. Maybe it’s a walk along the Greenway. Sometimes it’s baking muffins on a Saturday morning or watching a movie together under a pile of blankets.
The activity itself isn’t always what your kids will remember.
They’ll remember how it felt to spend time together.
So this fall, make a list of a few fall activities for kids, explore some of the wonderful places around Augusta and North Augusta, start a tradition, and take plenty of pictures along the way.
Because these little moments won’t last forever.
Your kids will grow. Their favorite activities will change. Your family will enter new seasons.
But the memories you make together will always be worth holding onto.
Here’s to a fall-filled with pumpkin patches, messy kitchens, crisp mornings, cozy nights, and plenty of memories made together.
