How does that song go? “It is the most wonderful time of the year… be of good cheer!” Yes, I know that this time of the year is oozing with cheer and happiness – seriously every where I turn, I see Christmas lights, holiday parties and Pins, Facebook and Instagram posts about looking cute in Christmas clothes, the perfect Christmas portrait and the perfect cookies and I realized that while I have been going through the motions of Christmas life, my life is not perfect and quite honestly, we have the saddest reindeer outside who does not light up and if you looked at the back of our Christmas tree as of today, there are still no decorations on the back of it because we still haven’t completely decorated it… Phew!! I feel like a million bucks getting that off my chest!!!!
But seriously, this past weekend, despite how crazy it was, I found myself getting caught up in the “need to do” of this time of year instead of the “want to do” of this time of year. This time of year is when we should take a breather, make connections with family and spend time with the ones we love – no matter what our outdoor or indoor decorations look like!!! On Monday, I listened to a Podcast that spoke right to my heart, it was called “Holiday Hot Mess” by Brendon Burchard. It came at a great time and made me take a moment to reflect on the wonderful weekend my family and I had with some of my husband’s family in town, lots of wonderful events for my family and I and work and a few hours of sleep (yup! that’s the current state of my bedroom)!! 🙂
As we roll into the final week before Christmas, I plan on focusing on the true meaning of Christmas and making time with the ones I love to celebrate all our good fortunes, including the unlit reindeer and not-fully-decorated Christmas tree.
