As a full-time portrait photographer for newborns and families, a wife and a mom of three it takes a lot of planning and coordination to keep all things moving full steam ahead. And I am sure there are a lot of moms out there just like me! I wanted to share with you some tips and tricks that have helped me and maybe they can help you too!

Make sure to enforce your own bedtime just like you enforce the kids. Getting enough sleep will allow you to tackle the to-dos of the next day and even the ones lingering from the day before.

Establish a regular working schedule. Working for myself I have to have set work hours and set “at home” hours otherwise I could easily get distracted by work and not give enough time to my family. If you have a boss, then make sure they know that evenings and weekends are reserved for family and any calls or emails will get returned the next business day.

I keep our family organized by using a shared Google calendar and color-coding each child’s activities, doctors appointments, haircuts, etc. Speaking of calendars here are the fall sessions I will be offering so make sure to book now and get them on your calendar!

Saying no is ok – it’s actually healthy for you to demonstrate knowing your limits and setting boundaries to your children.  When we say no to good things we open up the door for great things! Give yourself permission to access your own time!

Be realistic with your daily goals. Set a limited number of priorities each day and tackle them with excitement. Achieve that feeling of accomplishment instead of always feeling like you didn’t get to that one thing.

Multi-tasking? Truth or myth? Depends on who you ask. Either way, try to focus on the task you are engaged in. You, anyone else involved in the task and the task itself will all benefit from your focus. Try combining tasks such as exercising with friends or cooking with the kids, multi-tasking in this way gives you a bonus of accomplishing two things at once!

Is dinner always a struggle in your home? I have recently signed up for www.emeals.com and it helps me plan out meals for the week. It’s AMAZING! They offer a free 14-week trial so you can test it out before purchasing. It’s very reasonably priced and has made a tremendous difference for us!

Check out my recipe for gluten-free pumpkin chocolate chip muffins as a go-to for breakfast – they freeze well and can be popped into the microwave for a quick thaw on a busy morning.  A go-to crockpot meal is my ranch pork chops and the recipe is below. Serve them with basmati rice and you’ve got dinner!

Ranch Pork Chops

Ingredients:

  1. 1 package pork chops ( boneless or bone in)
  2. 1 packet dry ranch dressing
  3. 1 stick unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Place pork chops in crockpot sprayed with Pam.
  2. Sprinkle ranch dressing on pork chops and cut up butter into chunks and place on top.
  3. Turn crockpot on low for 6hrs or high for 4hrs.
  4. Enjoy!
