September always feels like a little bit of a transition.

The mornings start to feel cooler, the days slowly get shorter, and suddenly we trade summer sandals for cozy sweaters and look ahead to everything the last few months of the year have in store.

This September has been full of so many beautiful moments at Mary Beth’s Photography. From fall family portraits and sweet newborn sessions to getting ready for Santa and the holiday season, it has been a full and wonderful month around here.

As I look back on September, I’m especially grateful for all the families who have trusted me to document these seasons of their lives. And as we head into October, November, and December, I am even more excited for what is still to come.

Fall Family Portraits Are Here

There is something about fall family portraits that never gets old.

The warmer colors, beautiful light, cozy outfits, and cooler evenings make this one of my favorite times of year to photograph families. More than anything, I love watching families simply enjoy being together during their session.

The little moments are always my favorite. A child running through the grass, siblings laughing together, parents cuddling their babies, or everyone walking hand in hand.

Those are the moments that make a family portrait session feel like more than just getting everyone to smile for the camera.

September has officially brought us into fall portrait season, and I am so excited for all of the beautiful families who will be stepping in front of my camera over the next few weeks.

If you have been thinking about updating your family portraits, this is such a beautiful season to do it. Fall has a way of making everything feel warm, timeless, and a little extra special.

Sweet Newborn Beginnings

September has also brought some incredibly sweet newborn sessions into the studio.

Nothing quite compares to photographing a brand-new baby. Those tiny fingers, sleepy expressions, little toes, and all of those details that seem to change almost overnight are exactly why newborn portraits are so meaningful.

I especially love creating custom newborn sessions that feel personal to each family. Some families love soft, neutral setups while others want beautiful colors, meaningful props, heirlooms, or a custom theme.

There is no one way to create a beautiful newborn session, and that is one of my favorite things about this part of what I do.

Every baby is different, every family is different, and every session tells a slightly different story.

If you missed my recent post about custom newborn sessions, you can read more about the little details that go into planning a beautiful newborn experience here.

Getting Ready for Santa

And then there is Santa!

It is hard to believe that we are already talking about Christmas, but the holiday season will be here before we know it.

September has been a big month for getting everything ready for our holiday portraits and Santa sessions. So many little details go into creating a beautiful holiday experience, and I cannot wait to see everything come together.

One of my favorite things about Santa portraits is that they capture a very specific kind of childhood magic.

The excitement.

The wonder.

The Christmas wishes.

The little expressions that happen when a child sees Santa.

Your children will not always believe in Santa, and they will not always be this little. That is what makes these portraits so special. They preserve a little piece of that childhood magic that you can look back on years from now.

And yes, we are officially getting into the holiday spirit around here!

A Little Fall Inspiration From My Kitchen

Of course, fall is not just about portraits.

It is also about pumpkin everything, cozy evenings at home, and spending a little more time in the kitchen.

If you have been following along for a while, you know photography isn’t the only thing I love to share. I also love sharing some of my favorite recipes and everyday moments over on my food blog, Home in the Kitchen.

Fall is the perfect time to pull out the pumpkin recipes, turn on the oven, and make something cozy for your family.

If you are looking for a little pumpkin inspiration this season, be sure to visit Home in the Kitchen for some of my favorite fall recipes.

There’s something about a warm kitchen, a pumpkin recipe in the oven, and a cool evening outside that makes this time of year feel so special.

A Little Life Update

September has also been a month of slowing down and appreciating the everyday things.

Between sessions, holiday planning, and everything happening behind the scenes, there is always something going on. But one thing I am continually reminded of is how quickly these seasons of life pass.

That is one of the biggest reasons I love what I do.

Families grow.

Babies become toddlers.

Toddlers become little kids.

And before we know it, the family dynamic that felt so ordinary today has completely changed.

I never take the chance to document those seasons for families for granted.

So as September comes to a close, I am trying to soak up the little things too. The quiet mornings, the changing season, time with family, a good meal, and all of the little moments that make everyday life beautiful.

Looking Ahead to the Holiday Season

October through December is always such a special time at the studio.

We’ll have more family portraits, newborn sessions, Santa portraits, holiday planning, and all the little details that make this season so much fun.

It is also the time of year when many families begin thinking about gifts for grandparents, holiday cards, albums, and portraits to display throughout their homes.

I love helping families create artwork that becomes part of their homes and their stories. These are not just portraits to look at for a season. They are memories you can hold onto long after your children have grown.

If you are thinking about booking a holiday session, now is the time to start planning. The calendar tends to fill quickly as we get closer to Christmas, especially for Santa and family sessions.

Goodbye, September

September, you have been good to us.

Thank you for the families who came into the studio, the sweet babies I got to photograph, the fall evenings, the pumpkin recipes, the holiday planning, and all of the little moments in between.

There is something really special about standing at the beginning of a new season and knowing there is so much still ahead.

So here we go.

More cozy fall evenings.

More beautiful family portraits.

More tiny newborns.

More Christmas magic.

More memories.

And hopefully, a little more time to slow down and enjoy it all.

I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings.

Here’s to a beautiful fall and an even more beautiful holiday season ahead.

With love,

Mary Beth
