If there’s ever a session that you’ll never regret booking, it’s a newborn session. These portraits will stay with you forever, long after that cuddly bundle of joy has started walking, talking and growing up faster than you can blink. These are the most precious customized sessions and it will be an experience you’ll never forget. Because if you miss this stage, that’s it. You can’t get it back, you can’t re-create it, it’s just gone. Like that (snaps fingers dramatically).
When you are a mama-to-be the best time to book a newborn session is in the second trimester. It might sound early to you but I like to have some time to communicate with my clients about what they’re envisioning for their newborn session. Also, I can tell that not many of you have been socially distancing, (tsk, tsk) because there are lots of babies being born! So, book early and avoid the stress of rushing later. You’ll have enough stress in that third trimester when you’re anxiously awaiting your precious little one. So, we start with the pre-session consultation where we’ll talk about your ideas for a custom set design. Some parents like to keep it classic while others like to incorporate aspects of their lives (favorite sports teams, hobbies or their career). We can go over all of this at the consultation so we’re on the same page and we can get things rolling. This session is as stress free as possible for new parents and this consultation is part of the whole experience that will put your mind at ease.
The newborn sessions are from 2-3 hours in length, accounting for diaper changes, feedings and anything else that little peanut throws at us. There’s plenty of time to capure all the portraits so there’s no rush. Also, for these sessions, all you have to do is show up (and bring the baby of course). We provide all the blankets, hats, headbands and props. As part of your newborn session experience, there are 3 custom styled sets. And we encourage families to use this time to take protraits of siblings with baby and also, parents with baby. Speaking of siblings, we know 2-3 hours is a long time for older siblings and that they can get antsy and cranky. We have you covered! At the studio, we have snacks, a fridge full of drinks, coffee (more for you than the kids), and a toy area (that is vigoriously cleaned between sessions). The toy area is always a hit and it keeps everyone in a good and more cooperative mood. Which is a win win for everyone!
I can’t stress it enough that families I’ve worked with who have missed out on these newborn moments are always regretful. Those tiny toes, that cute little smirk (usually caused by gas), those adorable hats and headbands that only a newborn will wear, it’s all worth it. This session is a wonderful experience for you! To really take a second and soak in all of the newborn goodness you can. Because when you look at these portraits years from now, you’ll be able to smell that newborn scent, you’ll be able to feel those tiny hands and you’ll get that same feeling that only new parents know. The unconditional love for your child. It’s really the best feeling in the world.
