thankful pumpkin

As a family, we try to be thankful all throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season. There is so much to be thankful for, even though we may forget during the hard times. This year, I wanted to have everything written down, in front of us, so we could be reminded daily of everything we are blessed with. The kids loved this and started shouting things out and I almost couldn’t keep up with all their gratitude.

For this DIY, you’ll need a pumpkin of your choosing and a sharpie marker.  We had a bigger size pumpkin which was a good thing so we could fit everything. I used the sharpie marker to write with. You just want to be careful when you’re writing that it doesn’t smudge. Just give it a few seconds to dry and you’ll be good to go! I wanted our pumpkin to be aesthetically pleasing so I did the writing myself, in a circular pattern but you could, of course, have your kids write what they’re thankful for themselves. We also decided to do this one night after dinner. We thought of many things we’re all grateful for so the pumpkin filled up fast. Now, we are adding things when we think of them and it has worked well. You could also do this nightly and add things everyday. Whatever works for your family!

thankful pumpkin

Our pumpkin is displayed on our table, part of our centerpiece. I love family traditions and being grateful has always been a big tradition of ours. We have done different things to display our gratitude, but this thankful pumpkin might be my most favorite. I hope you and your family are enjoying this holiday season and are able to be thankful for everything you have. Even the smallest thing, sipping a hot coffee, reading your children a bedtime story, cooking dinner for your family, watching your children do something they love, can make your heart grateful.
